🎓 Why Study in the UK?
The United Kingdom is globally renowned for academic excellence, attracting hundreds of thousands of international students every year. With world-leading universities, diverse programmes and strong employer connections, making the UK your study destination opens doors to global opportunities.
📘 Understanding UK Higher Education
Bachelor’s Degrees: Typically 3 years in England, Wales or Northern Ireland; 4 years in Scotland or where a “sandwich” work-year applies.
Master’s Degrees: Usually completed in 1 year.
Doctorates: Typically 3-5 years.
Some programmes (Integrated Master’s) combine undergraduate and postgraduate studies into 4-year courses.
Universities and recognised bodies deliver degrees; many further education colleges offer foundation or pathway programmes.
🛂 Student Visa: “Student Route”
If your course is longer than 6 months, you must apply under the UK’s Student Route (formerly Tier 4). Key eligibility requirements (as of late 2025) include:
Unconditional offer from a UK university licensed by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
English language competence (level depends on your course and country).
Proof of maintenance funds: From 11 Nov 2025, you must show:
£1,529 per month (up to 9 months) if studying in London.
£1,171 per month (up to 9 months) for study outside London.
Funds must have been held for at least 28 consecutive days prior to application.
Other conditions: valid passport, biometric information, and compliance with immigration rules such as the “genuine student” test.
Post-Study Work & Immigration Pathways
After successfully completing your eligible programme, you may apply under the Graduate Route, to stay and work. Note: from 1 January 2027, the Graduate Route for bachelor’s & master’s graduates will be reduced from 24 to 18 months.
